October 2008 TFS Power Tools Released!


This has got to be the biggest release of the power tools to date, so many features are in this release it definitely rates as a must have for any developers connected to a TFS repository.

The following tools are installed with the tfpt.msi package:

  • Command line tool (TFPT.EXE)
  • Team Explorer IDE menu additions
  • Build Notification tool
  • TFS Best Practices Analyzer (requires Windows PowerShell 1.0)
  • Process Template Editor
  • Work Item Templates
  • Custom check-in policies
  • TFS Server Manager
  • TFS Users tool
  • Alert Editor
  • TFS Power Shell Extensions (requires Windows PowerShell 1.0)
  • TFS Windows Shell Extensions
  • Team Members Tool

Note: The TFS Windows Shell Extensions are not installed by default. Choose Custom when prompted during installation to add the tool to the installed components.

Note: Some of the tfpt.exe commands require Team Foundation Server 2008 Team Explorer SP1 to be installed.

Note: This version of the power tools now installs for "all users" rather than just the current user.
