I finally got a driver for my card slot device (it’s only been a year!), it turns out the NX9420 uses the same hardware so I downloaded the driver and installed it and voila!
If you have a Compaq NX9420 and want to run Windows Vista x64 here is a blog entry that will step you through what you need to get up and running.
