If you live in or around the Ottawa area you can save yourself some money and not ship your packages from the United States to Canada which is some cases can be quite costly. Ottawa is approximately 45 minutes from upstate New York and The UPS Store in Ogdensburg.
The UPS Store will accept your parcel and hold it for pick up, they charge a small fee of $5 USD for this convenience but it is well worth it in my opinion. Don’t forget you are still responsible for the GST and PST upon your return to Canada.

Great advice, I am planning to have some manuals I wrote printed in the U.S. The shipping and Customs clearance fees for having the items shipped to Canada are ridiculous but fall of dramatically if they are shipped to a U.S. address. One of the big charges is the UPS charge for doing the Customs clearance on what, in my case, is an item that does not have any duty or taxes attached to it. I am in Kemptville so am only about 20 minutes from Ogdensburg.
