Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for HTC TyTN (Rogers)

I have been eagerly awaiting the WM6 upgrade for the HTC TyTN from Rogers.  When I registered the phone on HTC’s web site it said the WM6 upgrade was available but for some reason not for this particular model from Rogers.  The weeks went by and I got more impatient and so yesterday I was going to upgrade my HTC TyTN to WM6.  Here are the steps I did:

  • Run a utility to unlock the HTC Hermes CID
  • Download the AT&T 8525 Official ROM
  • Reconfigure the Rogers Data Connection by following these steps:
    • Go to Settings
    • Connections Tab
    • Tap on Connections
    • Tap on "Add a new modem connection"
    • Enter a name for the connection "Rogers" or something else
    • Select "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)" under "select a modem"
    • Enter for "Access Point Name"
    • Username: wapuser1
    • Password: wap
    • Tap Finish
  • Now you probably want to customize your WM6 device with some of the HTC utilities
  • Soft reset the device and select the HTC Black theme and enjoy, don’t forget to configure your location for the weather application.

Go to Start | Programs | Proxy Manager | Disable Proxy
If you are having issues surfing the web with IE.
You should be good to go.

  2. This totally rocks! Just finished following your instructions and got to say THANKS! Rogers tech support kept saying it couldn\’t be done, ever since I got my tytn in the summer- it was a bit nerve wracking but was a smooth transistion. Again Thanks a million!!

  4. how would you rate this on the difficulty spectrum?  Will This have any negative side effects if I want to pick up a rogers data plan?

  5. It was not difficult, I have it connected to Outlook Web Access using a Rogers data plan and it works perfectly.

  6. The ROM link is now dead. Do you know where to find the ROM now? Also, did you use the ROM for the 8525 and it worked fine?

  7. No I don\’t know where to find the ROM anymore, the AT&T 8525 ROM worked great though. I have since switched over to an HTC Touch since the TyTN\’s short battery life was a killer for me.
