Building a SharePoint 2007 Web Part for WSS/MOSS

I will be co-presenting a luncheon at the Ottawa .NET users group about Windows SharePoint Services v3 and one of my tasks for the presentation was to build a SharePoint Web Part.

I have both Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 on my computer and wasn’t sure which environment would be best suited for it but in the end I decided to go with 2005 and the VSeWSS CTP add-in.

The VSeWSS add-in currently comes in two flavors, version 1.0 and version 1.1 CTP my development environment for this add-in means that I must develop under Windows 2003 Server (x32 only) with WSS or MOSS installed.

The web part I built for my presentation just displays an RSS feed based on the stylesheet referred to in the XML processing instruction.  I was able to deploy and debug with a press of the "F5" key, life is good.

I am now looking at using Web User Controls as SharePoint Web Parts since I’m addicted to GUI design.
